SAY THIS...

"Hi, I'm wondering, if you have the power and/or authority to help me with something?" At this point, they don't even know what it is yet, but they almost always say "Yes, how can I help you?"

Then, when you ask for an upgrade, a blanket, or whatever else you might need, not only do you win, but they do to. They get to feel in control and contribute in a positive way to a guest/customer at the same time.
