The Communcation System has been developed to be your RETAIL COLLABORATION CENTRE.

It is what makes us a community. We can send & receive messages to and from each other.

We can start topics for debates. Just start a conversation - we're listening.

Click on the links and the tabs - don't be afraid, nothing will break.

There is an AMAZING feature which allows you to:

  2. Start a Sub-group where only nominated people can participate in a 'closed forum'.

As our membership grows and we have sub-groups (say shopping centre marketers, or newsagents) then certain mailings and posts will be for that special interest group only.

Hi Dennis,

It kind of feels like being the first person to arrive at a party Wink

I read through the pricing PDF you sent me. Excellent information. Thank you.

One important aspect was benchmarking of gross margins and turnover. I was wondering if you could help me discover those benchmarks for fashion footwear retailers?

Thank you,

Chris

Chris,

You are first, but someone created the first Facebook profile too :-)

I have agreed in principle with a lweading supplier of benchmark data to have that on the site. It will for sale - but that is the best I can do.

My own stats is skewed because I normally work with trouble retailers.

(I will upload the 2 page summary of all the categories in the File Sharing section.)

Here is what I have - but it originates out of the US:

Shoes

GMROI:                       1.60

Gross Profit:               43.3%

Profit Before Taxes: 0.5%

Current Ratio:            1.6

Debt to Worth Ratio: 2.4

Median Turn:             2.1

Return on Assets:      1.6%

And I have this out of Aus for (upmarket) Shoes

TO $750K

Ave size 80sqm

GP48%

(These numbers apply to chains)

Does this help?

Thanks Dennis,

I could use a little more info on those stats. So the US stats were:

GMROI:                       1.60

Gross Profit:               43.3%

Profit Before Taxes: 0.5%

Current Ratio:            1.6

Debt to Worth Ratio: 2.4

Median Turn:             2.1

Return on Assets:      1.6%

My interpretation of that is that their Gross Margin is 43.3%, but their profit before taxes is only half a percent? And the stock turns twice a year? Is that right?

And the Australian Gross Margin is a little bit better at 48%. Is that from a single company, or an industry average?

Do you know if those margins are inclusive of discounts, returns, sales etc?

Another statistic I'd be very interested in is the average sell-though rate on styles.

Thanks :)

Chris

Yes your read of the stats is correct.

And I checked the profits (that was a 2006 figure but the trend has been <3% - usually between 1 and 2)

Not good heh?

The Aussie stats for 'upmarket' chains. Owner- operated stores have traditionaly been lower end of the 40s. Also this is for shopping centres and not strips and also not for rural areas.

I will let you know when I have an update on us getting access to the latest data.

Cheers

Dennis
