The video provides a simple message to its viewers. That is there will be massive boom in the health industry. It was shown that there were always trends that explode and rapidly increase in capital. In the 80s there were computers, 90s the internet 00s were the increase in internet social networking, and the video makers predict that health products will be the boom in 2010s. Most of this was attributed to baby boomers who need to maintain their health and have strong spending powers.

This summary of business trends augments the video and suggests that healthy products will need to be both natural and have strong scientific evidence. For example, Youthopia was advertised its research, claiming that “75 percent agreed their skin felt firmer”, after using their product.

The graph shows the increase in ethical consumerism from 1999 to 2005. While the consumption of tobacco and alcohol (unhealthy products) has remained constant; the consumption of ethical products tripled in 7 years.

Australia will soon become heavily involved in organic food and healthy products. As more and more brands are entering the market with new and innovative health products, big brands will soon lose its appeal because smaller brands and gather product momentum faster than big brands can maintain their product line. Also, supermarkets such as Woolworths and Coles will be more involved in health and fresh foods. This is shown by Woolworth’s change of their slogan into “The fresh food people”.

People are more aware of health-related issues through related media and promotions such as shows like "The Biggest Loser" and other health & food channels. At the same time, with the increase in Genetically Modified crops, highly processed foods (i.e. burger patties, sausages, can foods, microwave-ready meals, etc.), and the many fast-food outlets currently available (McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, etc.), I would presume that organic foods are becoming more and more popular, and demand growing for todays consumers who are opting for the healthy option.

Many retail companies are realizing a shift and taking the opportunity to promote and develop a wide range of healthy organic options (for e.g. organic fruits and vegetables, restaurants serving only organic food, Dominos "healthy" range of pizzas, and many more) to capitalize on these consumers (demand). Should be interesting to see how the organic food industry grows in the years to come and it's impact on the retail sector.

Good luck with your report!

Youve managed to pick out a very significant trend :-) good stuff.

Think healthy living and lifestyle products are all the craze these days. Almost like a statement. It would be in the best interests of retailers to seek out opportunities in this arena. Not just with organic food but with better and healthier lifestyle products and services as well.

All the best for your assignment, benz!
